WVU Medicine Opens Skilled Nursing Unit at Fairmont Medical Center

Morgantown, West Virginia – WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center has begun construction on a 30-bed skilled nursing unit, scheduled to open this fall, to house patients requiring short-term care and observation following surgery or illness.

“Since opening, we have had plans to add skilled nursing units, and we are excited to see that begin to materialize,” said Aaron Januzo, WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center Chief Operating Officer. said Mr. “We started working with architects and construction staff last year. We understand that patients recover better when they are closer to their support system. We hope that having a nursing unit will improve patient outcomes and ease the burden of travel for families.”

Skilled Nursing Units care for patients who need a higher level of care than they receive at home, but who do not need to be hospitalized. The unit is staffed by trained nurses and occupational and physical therapists to help patients recover and return to normal activities.

“The last few years have been a period of growth for Fairmont Medical Center,” said Dr. Michael Grace, MBA, FACHE, President of WVU Hospitals. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact this project and others have on the community.”

This unit is located on the second floor of the hospital and has a private room and bathroom. Common areas including dining room. Physiotherapy room. and a salon.
This new unit is part of a $100 million five-year renovation and conversion plan that will expand the service offerings in Marion County.
