Parkersburg — WVU Medicine Camden Clark Begins Annual Meeting “100 miles in 100 days” Walking campaign on Wednesday.

About 20 people started the campaign in the employee parking lot behind the Camden-Clark Medical Office Buildings A and B and the Parkersburg Cardiology Association and walked the first mile.

Running through August 29, the 15-week walking program encourages people at medical centers and throughout the community to walk 1 mile a day for 100 days to promote exercise and better health.

“We are here to kick off an annual campaign for the entire healthcare system.” said Pat Perrin, Fitness/Exercise Coordinator at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Health and Wellness Center. “It’s about promoting walking and encouraging people to walk a mile every day for the next 100 days to promote health and wellness.

“Walking is important for health and is great for health, cardiovascular health and stress relief. You can do it anywhere and you don’t need any special equipment. You can walk anywhere. It has great benefits for your overall health. is.”

More than 6,200 WVU Medicine employees participated in the 2022 “Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days” program, making it the largest exercise program in the state, according to hospital officials.

Hospital officials say they are competing not only among hospital teams, but also among local residents. Employees of participating hospitals also enjoy several benefits with insurance coverage.

Perrine says that when warmer weather sets in in the spring, people want to get out and do things.

“Walking is an easy way to incorporate exercise into people’s lives.” He said.

The event allows everyone to exercise, whether they’re runners, weightlifters, or don’t participate in other sports.

“You should be able to go out and take a nice walk.” said Louis Haar, Director of WVU Medicine Camden Clark Health and Wellness Center.

“Nothing negative happens from walking.”

The biggest excuses they hear are lack of time and bad weather.

Haar said walking can be a part of everyone’s life. Once people get started, they get into the habit of doing it regularly.

“The important thing is to get out and move.” He said. “Nothing can stop you from exercising or taking care of yourself.

“I don’t care who you are, your quality of life improves with exercise.”

Camden-Clark Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shari Vance said one of the goals of the campaign is to get people out and about this summer. She added that being able to work out with other people is more motivating.

“It’s great for heart health, weight management, muscle building, and more.” Vance said. “There is absolutely no downside to working out.

“We want everyone to be healthy.”
