Winchester Hospital reprimands Dr. Amelie’s medical license

Wakefield, Massachusetts (WWLP) – A Massachusetts physician has been reprimanded by the Medical Registry Board following the death of a patient.

The Massachusetts Medical Registry Board announced Monday that it revoked Dr. Darius M. Amelie’s medical license on May 11. A jury verdict found Dr. Amelie to be grossly negligent in operating on a patient who died two days later, according to a committee news release.

In its final decision and order, the board took disciplinary action against Dr. Amelie’s medical license. Dr. Amelie was the first to receive a medical license in Massachusetts on March 23, 1987. He is currently working as a doctor at Winchester Hospital.

The Massachusetts Medical Registry Board licenses more than 40,000 physicians, osteopaths and acupuncturists. The Commission’s objective is to “protect public health and safety by setting standards of medical practice and ensuring that physicians practicing within the Commonwealth are appropriately qualified and competent.” Founded in 1894.
