Wilson undergoes surgery for fractured spine


Stefan Wilson’s T12 vertebra fracture requires the Cusick Motorsport/Dryer & Reinbold IndyCar driver to undergo surgery.

After being hit from behind by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Katherine Legge during Monday’s two-hour practice session, Wilson was taken to the local IU Health Methodist Hospital and admitted to the ER, where she spent most of the day. After that, I was moved to a normal room. That night.

Additional imaging tests on Tuesday morning revealed the severity of Wilson’s fracture, prompting plans for surgery.

“After further observation and testing on Tuesday, hospital medical staff determined that Wilson required surgery to stabilize the fracture,” the team confirmed. “Surgery will take place on Wednesday, May 24th.”

Wilson chose to remain in Indianapolis for surgery and return to Colorado with his wife after beginning rehabilitation, which is expected to last three months.

RLL’s Graham Rahal was announced Tuesday as Wilson’s replacement in the new #24 Chevrolet.
