URMC Surgery Center Opens at Marketplace Mall

HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The Rochester College of Medicine officially opened its new $227 million orthopedic and physical performance surgery center in the Marketplace mall Wednesday morning.

This is the largest off-site building project in the history of the University of Rochester. This project he built within two years.

The new facility has eight operating rooms, three treatment rooms, and an imaging center that offers MRIs, CT scans, and X-rays. We offer 23-hour ambulatory care, with more services to come.

The operating room will be equipped with state-of-the-art motion detection equipment. The university’s president said there was a demand for orthopedic surgery in the area.

“This center reflects the university’s commitment to providing the finest medicines available to everyone,” said University Rector Sarah Mangelsdorf. “We have certainly invested in state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, but what really makes it state-of-the-art is the quality of care.”

The second phase of the $227 million project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The project added hundreds of local construction jobs, increasing visitors and business opportunities to the Marketplace mall.
