Springfield’s bars, restaurants and stores can expect to see legislative patrons, at least for a while, due to the Illinois legislature’s longer-than-expected session.

Friday was the original recess day for the spring legislature, but as of that morning no budget had been put forward and an extension is needed as hundreds of bills still need final action.

Later that day, Senate Speaker Don Harmon and House Speaker Emmanuel “Chris” Welch announced they would extend the session until next week. The Senate meets in the Capitol on Wednesdays and Thursdays, while the House of Representatives meets in the Chamber Wednesday through Friday.
