Food Network Magazine stopped by one of Greenville’s most popular restaurants to discover the most prestigious barbecue joints in the state.
With two locations in Greenville and Simpsonville and a Hog Hauler catering bus, Henry’s Smokehouse decided to give Food Network magazine a shot.
After sampling the restaurant’s menu, the magazine named Henry’s Smokehouse one of the four best barbecue restaurants in South Carolina.
For first-time diners, the magazine recommends Henry’s dry ribs.
According to the restaurant’s website, Henry’s slow-cooks the finest meats in an open hickory log barbecue pit, traditional Southern style. Kalbi is cooked over his 8 hours and pork belly over his 12 hours.
Tiger O’Rourke, general manager of Henry’s Smokehouse, is proud of the team’s efforts in making the barbecue restaurant a success. He said being recognized by the Food Network gives the restaurant and its employees a sense of pride.
“Today it’s very difficult to make everyone happy and have some form of recognition for what they do,” O’Rourke said. “It’s amazing and I think they take pride in what they do.”
O’Rourke believes the Food Network title fuels the restaurant’s current success.
“There are a lot of barbecue restaurants in the market in Greenville, and a lot of great barbecue,” he said. “And it helps show that we can still compete.”
Other South Carolina restaurants on Food Network magazine’s best barbecue list are Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ in Charleston, Swig & Swine in Mount Pleasant, and Roy’s Grill in Irmo.
