The city’s coroner has determined the cause of death of a black man who died after being strangled on the subway earlier this week.
Jordan Neely, 30, has died from a neck compression, or chokehold. appeared to be in the midst of a crisis.
Authorities said the man who strangled him had not been charged and the case was under investigation.
Thousands of people flocked to the Broadway-Lafayette subway station Wednesday afternoon to protest Neely’s death. A journalist captured a video of the incident and posted it on social media shortly after the incident.
A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office asked anyone who witnessed the incident to call their office.
“This is a serious and serious matter that has resulted in the tragic loss of the life of Jordan Neely,” said a spokesperson.
