Sacred Heart University and Hartford HealthCare have announced a comprehensive agreement to jointly expand a range of clinical training and development activities. This will launch new scholarships, medical certificate programs, and increase educational and placement opportunities. The deal will better support students in SHU’s nursing and medical professions, as well as provide an important pipeline for Hartford Healthcare in a time of well-known health care workplace shortages in Connecticut and across the nation. Both organizations benefit from building. The two organizations celebrated the agreement today at SHU’s East Building Atrium on the West Campus. This agreement covers a variety of reciprocal training and clinical placement options. We offer a variety of opportunities for SHU students pursuing BSN and APRN nursing degrees, as well as opportunities for students studying emergency and internal medicine, primary care, psychiatry, neuropsychology, and women’s health. Likewise, it offers new opportunities for students interested in becoming Physician Assistants (PAs), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Radiologists, and other types of Imaging Technicians. Students gain hands-on experience at Hartford HealthCare facilities and SHU’s state-of-the-art medical education center. The center has unique learning spaces for medical professionals and nursing students. Building expansion is underway to accommodate more students and offerings. Highlights of the new opportunities include:
- Nurse training and internships. This includes a new fellowship program for her two Critical Care Nursing Fellows, starting summer 2023, and significant opportunities for clinical rotations and placements at Hartford Health Care Facility.
- Expanded Certified Nursing Assistant Program Incorporating Shared Faculty Model
- Evidence-Based Practical Instruction Program for Clinical Nurses
- Additional Support for SHU’s Existing Global Nursing Program in the Philippines
- Hartford HealthCare Colleagues Opportunity to Enroll in Accelerated BSN and RN Degree Programs
- Clinical placement and rotation for SHU students studying to become a PA
- Clinical training for students aiming to become speech pathologists
- Innovative Certification Program for Clinical Quality
- Extended program focused on emergency medicine and EMT training
- Clinical training and placement in behavioral health in collaboration with the Master of Clinical Health Counseling Program at SHU’s Farrington College of Education & Human Development and the Graduate Program at the School of Social Work at the College of Arts & Sciences.
Graduates of these programs are well prepared and workforce ready. SHU graduates have an impressive exam pass rate. Her 2022 class of Susan L. Davis, RN, Richard J. Henley College of Nursing at SHU earned her 97% first-time pass rate at the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) .
