Reading of meeting between Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths

US Ambassador to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield today met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths. Ambassador Thomas Greenfield commended the United Nations leadership in organizing resources for the people of Sudan and commended the Sudanese organizations for providing life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable and displaced by the fighting. He stressed the need to ensure unhindered humanitarian access.

Ambassador Thomas Greenfield stressed the continuing imperative to ensure that the humanitarian community continues to expand access to the people of Syria ravaged by war and the recent earthquake, said the UN Security Council stressed the need for the Council to extend cross-border access for another 12 months. Ambassador Thomas Greenfield also discussed the dire humanitarian situation in Myanmar after Tropical Cyclone Mocha and the critical role of the Black Sea Grains Initiative in ensuring food reaches vulnerable populations.
