Quillen School of Medicine Class of 2023 Graduates Join Matchday

JOHNSON CITY – Members of the 2023 class of students at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen School of Medicine learned today where to go for residencies starting this summer after graduating in May.

The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is a combination of graduating medical students and national residency programs. With a 100% match rate for the 2023 class, the Quillen graduate is enjoying her 100% match rate for the second year in a row. Graduates have been matched to 15 specialties in 20 states and the District of Columbia.

Of the 73 students in the 2023 class, 49 will remain in the Southeast and 10 in East Tennessee across six specialties. Twenty-three students will remain in the state, and nine of her remaining will reside in North Carolina.

Five students complete their training through military service.

More than half of the classes receive training in primary care specialties such as family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology. Five students participated in the anesthesiology program. Four each for surgery, diagnostic and interventional radiology, and psychiatry. He has three orthopedic surgeons. Two in anatomic pathology. Another is otolaryngology.

Members of the Class of 2023 will participate in residencies at institutions across the country, including Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Wake Forest University, Louisiana State University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Virginia.

Nationwide, 40,375 jobs were offered to graduates, the largest class in NRMP history. Of those, 34,822 matched the first-year (PGY-1) position, up 1% from last year.
