New York Rangers forward Patrick Kane wonders what happened after his team was eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. I could have done more.
Kane, who was acquired by the Rangers in a trade before the NHL’s trade deadline, says he wasn’t 100 percent during the postseason, but stressed he feels good thanks to the team’s training staff.
“Kudos to the training staff for preparing as best they could for the playoffs,” he said. “It’s not 100%, but I’ve been feeling pretty good. I’ll figure it all out, talk to my doctor, and see how the plan is going.”
Kane will become a free agent on July 1, but said he has yet to decide whether surgery could be considered to improve the foot problems that have plagued him this season.
“No decision has been made yet (regarding the surgery). I think if I watch that series and feel a little better, it will help us win that series. It’s like how I feel about it,” he said.
With that free agency process looming in the distance, Kane says he wants to focus on his health first before thinking about his future home.
“In that regard, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I think the main focus right now is just health and figuring it all out,” he said.
