KL Rahul has shared a photo of himself walking around on crutches just days after undergoing surgery for a right thigh injury sustained in a recent IPL 2023 match. The Lucknow Super Giants captain was injured while defending against Royal Challengers Bangalore two weeks ago.

Rahul announced his decision to undergo surgery to fix the problem. The decision ensures he will miss the rest of his IPL season and the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in London on 7 June.

In announcing that he would have the surgery, Rahul said how difficult the decision was.

“I am really disappointed that I will not be able to attend the Oval next month as Team India. After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, I have decided to undergo surgery on my thigh soon and will focus on rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. I know this is the right decision for me,” the 31-year-old posted on his social media.

“Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest, followed by rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy,” the BCCI said in a statement.

The board also named Ishan Kishan as Rahul’s substitute for the WTC final and added Ruthuraj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav and Mukesh Kumar as reserves.

The cricketer recently shared an update on the surgery. “Hello everyone. The surgery is over. It was a success. I am very grateful to the doctors and medical staff who made me feel comfortable and made sure everything went smoothly. I am now officially in recovery.” I’m on my way.I’m determined to get my best back and get back on the field.Keep it up!” Rahul posted on social media on Wednesday.
