Ocean University Medical Center in Brick, New Jersey Opens Cardiovascular Laboratory


Brick-Ocean University Medical Center has announced a $20 million center for cardiovascular and vascular procedures in a move designed to accommodate the aging population of the rapidly growing county.

At 17,750 square feet, the Dr. Robert H. and Mary Ellen Harris Heart & Vascular Center is twice the size of the hospital’s former cath lab and brings together two related specialties in one unit.

“The cardiovascular system is a system,” said Dr. Ali Moosvi, director of cardiac catheterization at the hospital. “Ideally,[the treatment]should be done together. That’s why we did it. It was better for the patient.”

Owned by Edison-based Hackensack Meridian Health, Ocean University Medical Center is growing rapidly. It recently added an $82 million emergency department, 30 private rooms, and educational programs.

The development may be accidental. With the giant baby boomers reaching retirement age, Ocean County’s population grew rapidly during the pandemic, surpassing neighboring Monmouth County.More space and more affordability from upstate New Jersey, New York City and Philadelphia. This is because people moved in search of affordable housing.
