NYPD officer shoots and seriously injures man with ‘medical episode’ in Bronx


Police shot and seriously injured a man in the Bronx on Sunday after the victim’s father called 911, according to the NYPD.

Police said the 42-year-old man was “emotionally disturbed”, had a large kitchen knife and threatened officers before being shot.

“The caller, a father, has a medical condition in his adult son and explains that he feels he is being pursued and persecuted, saying, ‘If the police show up here today, I will kill them,'” he said. said Chell. He said.

Chell said two police officers arrived on the scene around 10 a.m. and the man (who was not identified by the police) was shaken. Chell said the man approached police with a large kitchen knife and refused to drop his weapon.

“The officer asked him to drop the knife many times, but he didn’t comply,” Chell said. “They fired their guns and hit the target.”

The altercation lasted 28 seconds and was recorded on an officer’s body camera, according to the New York Police Department.

Chell said police called an ambulance to take the man to a local hospital. NYPD did not immediately say which hospital the man was taken to or how many times he had been shot.
