Nicki Minaj’s mother, New York City doctor gives free plastic surgery to abuse victims

Rapper Nicki Minaj’s mother announced Friday that she’s partnering with New York City’s top plastic surgeon to provide free plastic surgery to victims of domestic violence.

Carol Marage, 63, who runs the Domestic Violence Foundation and is a victim herself, says putting herself under the knife can help women heal the wounds left at the hands of their abusers. said to have sex.

“Occasionally, [women] I was finally released with scars, broken bones and disfigurement,” Maraj said at an NAACP-sponsored luncheon on Long Island. “We will give these victims a fresh start, including assistance in regaining their physical confidence.”

At an intimate lunch before Mother’s Day, cosmetic surgeon Scott Breyer, M.D. vowed to work on victims for free with no cap on the cost of surgery.

“Many women are embarrassed, shy or afraid to go to the hospital,” he says.

“We will be donating services. My surgery and everything else will be free for anyone who has the courage to get out of a domestic violence situation.”

He added, “Probably a broken nose, a laceration, [is] something we can help them with. ”

Maraj, who founded the Carol Maraj Foundation in 2013, also recalled growing up in Trinidad and Tobago surrounded by harrowing domestic violence.

“I saw my father hit my mother in the head with a flashlight, but we just kept moving forward as if nothing had happened. I’ve lived with that realization,” she said.

In 2020, Maraj published her memoir, Leaving my Pain, detailing the alleged abuse she suffered from the “Starships” rapper’s late father, Robert Maraj.

In it, she describes a horrific attack on December 31, 1989, in which a man dragged her out of her car and said she was hit with “a rain of beatings” on her “head and face.”

“After a while, everything felt numb,” she wrote. “Her face was bleeding, her nose was bleeding, and she was in shock from being hit on her head so many times.”

She ultimately didn’t leave Maraj for a decade after that, only escaping after he checked into a rehab center and never finally divorced him, she told Hollywood Life in 2021. said in an interview.

Maraj was killed by hit-and-run driver Charles Polevich in February 2021 while walking on snowy roads on Long Island.

More than 9,800 victims are reported to have been abused on Long Island in 2021, according to data from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice cited by the NAACP.

Overall, more than 35% of women in the United States have suffered intimate partner rape, physical violence, or stalking in their lifetime.

On Friday, Mirage said she was also working with Sammy Gonzales of Suffolk County Council and the Islip chapter of the NAACP on efforts to get surgical help to victims of domestic violence.

The Carol Marage Foundation is dedicated to ending domestic violence and, according to its website, aims to “advocate, support and put abused women back to a healthy place.”
