As the 49ers deal with an offseason quarterback injury, a former signalman is recovering from his own surgery.
Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly underwent foot surgery in March, shortly after signing a three-year, $7,000 contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The news was first reported by The Athletic’s Tashan Read and Vic Taffer.
The surgery was the result of a foot injury Garoppolo sustained in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. At the time, he avoided surgery in hopes of making a comeback during the postseason, but he didn’t recover in time.
Garoppolo’s recovery schedule is still unknown, but the Raiders aren’t worried about him missing a regular-season game, according to reports. Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels said he “could” be out until at least training camp.
“We’re not playing a game for 100 days,” McDaniels said Thursday. “Everything that happened after signing Jimmy was known beforehand.
“…he is going through the process exactly as we expected. Based on the information we have, nothing has happened that would surprise us.”
Garoppolo has missed 31 regular-season games due to injuries in his six seasons with the 49ers, and suffered three near-season injuries (2018, 2020 and 2022).
