South Bend-based Beacon Health System and Elkhart’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center have budgeted $15 million for Granger’s surgery center. The partners said the facility will serve as a regional hub for orthopedic surgery and care.
The 23,000-square-foot center includes four operating rooms, one procedure room, and 20 pre- and post-operative recovery bays.
Beacon said the facility has the capacity to add two operating rooms, a procedure room and up to 10 patient rooms in the future.
“Orthopedic surgery is increasingly moving from hospital inpatient facilities to outpatient ambulatory surgery centers, where highly skilled orthopedic specialists and support teams use state-of-the-art equipment and technology. to diagnose and treat injuries, conditions and disorders,” said Dr. John A. Fuchiko, M.D. The director of the Granger Surgery Center said in a news release. “Our facilities promote high-quality, high-value care by enhancing access and affordability while improving health in our communities.”
A spokesperson for Beacon Health could not disclose the exact number of new jobs associated with the facility, but told the IIB that the partnership has a total of 30 orthopedic surgeons to care for patients.
The Granger Surgery Center is located off the Indiana Toll Road at Beacon Parkway and Capital Avenue, near Beacon Granger Hospital.
Authorities held a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility on October 21. South Bend-based Panzica Building Corp acted as the project manager for building construction.
