Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Phinney-Smith has undergone successful surgery on his right fifth finger, according to a statement released by the team on Wednesday. The statement also said Finney-Smith is expected to be fully cleared to participate in all off-season activities within six weeks after his finger heals.
Finney-Smith was on the injured reserve list with a right wrist problem late in the season, but it was his fingers that were plaguing him. The seventh-year veteran from the University of Florida has played through injuries and provided versatile frontcourt play next to starting center Nick Claxton.
Despite being touted as a 3-and-D playing in the forward spot, Phinney Smith struggled with his shooting while playing for Brooklyn. With the Mavericks, he shot 41.6% from the field and his 35.5% from 3-point shooting, while Finney and Smith shot only 35.1% and 30.6%, respectively. . However, assuming he doesn’t get traded this offseason, Finney Smith should have a better rhythm in this group.
