Honorary Degrees Also Awarded to Distinguished Orthopedic Oncologists
The University of Missouri School of Medicine will celebrate the graduation of 110 students on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 110 a.m. at the Jesse Auditorium at 205 Jesse Hall.
This year’s graduating class includes 18 graduates who trained at the school’s Springfield Clinical Campus in southwest Missouri. Springfield Clinical Campus is a public-private partnership with MU, CoxHealth and Mercy Hospitals.
MU School of Medicine alumnus Benjamin Schmidt, MD was selected as the opening speaker by this year’s graduating class. Schmidt is a Gastroenterology Fellow at SSM Health at his St. Louis University Hospital and is known for his videos on popular social media for educational and entertainment purposes.
The 2023 class of medical students at MU School of Medicine was very popular. 97% of his class passed the residency program match. This means that many hospitals and healthcare systems have chosen medical students graduating from MU as their best candidates for resident doctors.
After completing their medical degrees on Saturday, these doctors undergo additional training in their chosen specialties. Many of the doctors (his 31% of her MU medical school class in 2023) will remain at her MU campus for residency training. 44% of the MU School of Medicine 2023 class remained in Missouri, and 36% of this graduating class chose residency programs in internal medicine, family medicine, and pediatrics. 71 of the alumni are from Missouri, and the rest represent her other 16 states and her other 3 countries.
MU School of Medicine graduates consistently score above the national average on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). MU School of Medicine graduates are trained, assessed, and competent in their ability to provide patient-centered care, including the ability to communicate with patients, families, and colleagues working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Expected.
Graduation ceremonies also include special honors. Abramson of Sarcoma Care His Family Professor of Excellence, Chief of Orthopedic Oncology and His Director of the Abramson Cancer Center Sarcoma Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Christy Weber, M.D., Honorary Doctor of Science number will be awarded. Weber graduated from his MU in 1987 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree after studying Animal Science at CAFNR. In her current role, she specializes in treating children and adults with benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors, as well as metastatic bone disease. She is the first female president of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the world’s largest medical association of musculoskeletal specialists.
