The girls at McKeesport Area School District know style.
Volunteers from the McKeesport Area Shared Ministry UMC, school districts, and the larger community attended Saturday’s project prom.
Run by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, the annual event provides free gowns to high school students for prom night. This project will ensure that girls of all backgrounds have the opportunity to enjoy prom.
The organizers met the students at Beulah Park Church at 8:00 am and served a continental breakfast. After the meal, the 29 girls plus one of her got on the bus and went to Project Her Prom Shop in Penn Hills.
Girls tried on gowns from an inventory of 5,000 new dresses. With the help of our support staff, we picked our favorites.
After choosing gowns, the host took the girls back to the church and served them high tea. Tea, finger sandwiches, sweets, biscuits, jellies and other British staples were served at the reception.
