Mayo Clinic Surgical Staff File Petition Over Reported Staffing Issues


ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s and Methodist Surgery workers addressed a petition in Rochester Thursday morning regarding reported staffing issues.

The petition is addressed to the Mayo leadership and has been signed by more than half of the department, including current and former surgical staff, approximately 270 people.

“If you keep asking us to do something more or less, eventually the tank will be empty and there will be nothing left to pour from it. No,” said Sam Bright, now CST at St. Mary’s University.

The petition calls for “specific items related to worker and patient safety,” the group said. Excessive overtime, inadequate training, lack of breaks during shifts, etc.
