Jackson, Michigan – A new medical cannabis cultivation operation could soon be in Jackson.
The Jackson City Council on Tuesday, May 23, approved a conditional permit for Healthy High to build a marijuana growing business at 619 East Washington Avenue, east of downtown Jackson.
Only Second District Councilman Freddie Dancy voted against the approval of the permit.
Since the plan is still in its early stages, there is no timeline for when this operation will work.
The permit is for a Class C growing facility, which allows the company to begin construction but not grow plants on the site until additional permits are received from the state.
State law allows a maximum of 1,500 plants to be grown in a Class C facility.
Michigan’s Bureau of Marijuana Regulatory Licenses and Regulation granted the company pre-qualification in December 2021, allowing it to seek permits from local governments.
The company will undergo additional inspections and approvals from the state before opening.
