Man flees custody at Midstate Medical Center: Cheshire Police


Police are searching for a man who escaped custody while receiving treatment at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden.

CHESHIRE, Connecticut — A man who was being treated at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden has escaped custody, Cheshire Police said.

Police said Michael V. Gimmitti, 29, was taken into custody Wednesday under a red-handed arrest warrant on charges of first-time car theft and illegal use of a payment card. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Police said on Thursday morning that Gimmitti fled while receiving treatment at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden and is still at large.

Jim Mitti is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. Police say the man has blue eyes, brown hair and several tattoos all over his body.

Police said they were preparing an affidavit of arrest for fleeing custody. In addition to the charges against the Cheshire Police, Gimmitti has an outstanding arrest warrant from Meriden on charges of 3rd degree robbery, 2nd degree security violation and 5th degree attempted theft.
