LOS ANGELES — A 45-year-old Studio City man has been charged with falsely claiming to be a licensed physician and performing medical procedures on thousands of individuals, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday. Did.
Stephan Gevorkian, who prosecutors said he provided treatment for serious medical conditions including cancer, faces five felony counts for practicing medicine without a certificate.
“Practicing medicine without a license is not only a criminal offense in California, it can cause irreparable damage to the health of unsuspecting people. We have some seriously ill people who believe they are being treated by a doctor,” said District Attorney George Gascon. in a statement.
On Nov. 17, 2022, an undercover agent was consulted by Gevorkian, who owns and operates Pathways Medical in North Hollywood, according to Gascon’s office.The business performs patient blood tests, advises on treatment, and provides treatment for serious conditions such as cancer and viral infections.
During the consultation, Gevorkian allegedly failed to accurately address abnormal levels of hormones that could indicate a serious medical condition.
The case is being investigated by the Investigative Division of the California Department of Consumer Affairs and is being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Consumer Protection Division.
Gevorkian appears in court on May 24, with a preliminary hearing scheduled.
