Kansas City Chiefs RB Isaiah Pacheco ended his rookie season a little more tense than previously thought.
Pacheco recently spoke with USA TODAY’s Mackenzie Salmon to provide insight into his first NFL offseason and avoid complacency after winning the Super Bowl. In his response, Pacheco revealed that he was unable to enjoy the subsequent wins and parties as he had had surgery and was focused on his recovery.
In an interview with USA TODAY, Pacheco said, “I’ve been sitting around for months getting the knowledge of being a champion, partying and all that stuff and getting comfortable with being a champion.
“For me, as a rookie, I didn’t get to party much during this time when I could have been champion. I had to give away and do little things like surgery and therapy.”
Of course, there were no additional questions delving into what the surgery was for. We know Pacheco landed on the final injury report ahead of Super Bowl LVII with a wrist injury. In the fourth quarter, Pacheco stole a big shot from former Eagles Stakes CJ Gardner Johnson and went down a little after the play. He then had two more carries, including a 10-yard run that helped cool Kansas City’s game.
It’s certainly not uncommon for NFL players to play through injuries and clean up during the offseason. By the sound of it, this could have been a lingering illness, but we won’t know more about it until Andy Reid provides an update on the injury status when the OTA workouts begin later this month.
update: Pacheco appeared to wear a cast on his left wrist in a promotional video for the recent NFL Draft.
