Former Kentucky linebacker Jammin Davis He is recovering from injury and is in his second professional offseason.
The Washington Commanders are one of many NFL teams currently participating in the OTA. Davis, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has been conspicuously absent. Head coach Ron Rivera has no long-term concerns about the health of the starting inside linebacker.
“Jamin Davis is currently only doing walkthroughs and meetings,” Rivera told reporters this week. “He received light treatment for a lingering knee problem from last season. He will continue to work towards his return to the team and I am not worried about this being prolonged.”
Jammin Davis has made great strides in his first two years in the league. In 2021, he started half a game and tallied 76 tackles, 3.0 runs and 1 sack. 1 year later He was the starter in all but one game, leading Washington in tackles with 106.. He also added 9.0 tackles, 3.0 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.
People forget that he was a starter for just one season in Kentucky until he soared on the NFL draft board as an early entry. Being a slow cooker, his developmental curve will take a little longer. Despite his injury, he is doing well. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio spoke about the next steps in his own development.
“Jamin Davis makes an incredible splash play. He has some moments when that happens. We had a lot less last year,” Washington’s defensive coordinator said this week.
“He’s very talented when he takes that part out of his game and it makes a bigger splash.”
The offseason surgery seems like a minor setback, but it won’t slow down his long-term growth as a player.
