As we gear up for Pride Month, Michigan Medicine is pleased to announce a series of events and initiatives that not only celebrate our diverse communities, but also continue our commitment to health equity and inclusion.

On June 8th, the LGBTQ+ Health Advisory Board will host the first Pride Month Keynote and Celebration. Dr. Jose Bauermeister, MPH, Founding Professor of the Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania, will be the keynote speaker for this monumental event.

In a 60-minute presentation, Bauermeister will delve into the state of the science of LGBTQ+ health and provide strategic insights for breaking down medical barriers in the LGBTQ+ community. The goal is to promote multisectoral cooperation to promote health equity in society.

The event concludes with a short reception, giving attendees an opportunity to network and share their experiences. Space is limited, so please apply early. A Zoom link will be available if the event is full.

The LGBTQ+ Health Advisory Board envisioned this as an annual event to encourage the staff and faculty of the University of Michigan School of Medicine to provide a lasting, affirmative statement that promotes the health and well-being of people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. Michigan Medicine also has a major presence at local Pride celebrations in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. The Patient Experience Room (OPE) and the Comprehensive Gender Services Program (CGSP) will host tables at Ipsi Pride. This vibrant community event features live music, street food and street festivals by local businesses supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) and the Office of Patient Experience (OPE) are proud to sponsor Ann Arbor Pride, Ann Arbor’s annual celebration of pride. Ann Arbor Pride takes place August 5th in downtown Ann Arbor for his day-long festival featuring a variety of activities, entertainment and resources that focus on and celebrate the diversity of the community. Join us for this celebration of love, acceptance and pride.
