The San Francisco VA Health Care System’s Harm Reduction and Syringe Services Program serves veterans at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and nine VA clinics in downtown San Francisco, Oakland, San Bruno, Santa Rosa, Ukiah, Clear Lake and Eureka. offers. Harm Reduction Education and Supplies

We provide harm reduction education and supplies in the following ways:

The harm reduction supplies we offer include:

  • free Naloxone kit – requires a prescription. Please contact us.

  • Safer injectable supplies (eg, sterile syringes, sharps containers, alcohol swabs, tourniquets, rice cookers, filters, ascorbic acid, sterile water)
  • Safer sex products (eg, condoms, XL condoms, lubricants, spermicidal gel)
  • Wound care products (e.g. gloves, bandages, antibiotic ointments)
  • Hygiene products (eg, hand sanitizer, soap, washcloth tablets, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, lip balm)

  • Safer Smoking, Nasal Breathing, and Rectal Use Supplies (Coming Soon!)

Service linkage

It helps connect veterans to services like:

  • Hepatitis test, vaccine, treatment
  • HIV testing, PrEP, and PEP
  • Treatment and medication for opioid use disorders and substance use such as buprenorphine for nicotine replacement therapy
  • LGBTQ services
  • HUD-VASH service
  • Community-based resources, including those for civilians
