Freeport High School sophomore Kenzie Cochrane has been nominated for the Future Medical Leaders Conference and will attend the conference at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in June.
Cochrane’s nomination was based on her academic achievements, leadership skills, and interest in medicine, and was signed by Dr. Mario Capecchi, Nobel Laureate in Medicine and Executive Director of the National Academy of Physicians for the Future. the scientist. According to a news release, the academy offers free services and programs to students interested in medicine, with the goal of finding future medical talent “as soon as possible” to kick-start their careers.
Cochran said he was very excited after learning of his nomination.
“I’m very interested in the medical field, so the adrenaline came out,” she said.
Cochrane will join students from across the country at the three-day conference, June 21-23, to hear speeches by Nobel laureates and national science medal winners. Students will also hear from Ivy League school deans, learn about cutting-edge medical advances, and hear stories of patients considered “living medical miracles.”

Cochrane said her teachers at Freeport High School have deepened her love of biology, and she hopes to one day study at Tufts University.
