Former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewann is suing renowned plastic surgeon James Andrews for a 2020 surgery that Lewann claims was “improperly performed.”
In a lawsuit filed in Escambia County, Florida, on Monday and obtained by USA TODAY Sports on Thursday, Lewan said that Andrews and another doctor, Benjamin Sherman, injured his right knee during surgery to repair the front of his right knee. He claims he failed to protect his knee cartilage. cruciate ligament.
The surgery left the three-time Pro Bowl winner with “severe and permanent injuries,” the lawsuit claims.

A spokeswoman for the Andrews Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine said, “We cannot comment on individual patients or pending lawsuits.” Sherman did not immediately respond to her message seeking comment.

Lewan, 31, was at one point considered one of the NFL’s premier offensive tackles. After being drafted 11th overall by the Titans in 2014, he started in 100 games over his nine seasons with the team, playing primarily at left field in his tackle. And in 2020, injured people continue.
Ruwan tore the ACL in his right knee in overtime against the Houston Texans on October 18, 2020 and underwent surgery to repair the ligaments the following week. Then, after appearing in his 13 games with the Titans in 2021, he re-injured the same knee in Week 2 of last season, so he missed the rest of the season.
The Titans waived Lewan in February and selected his replacement candidate Peter Skoronski with the 11th overall pick last week.

Lewan claims in the lawsuit that he suffered “permanent damage” to his right knee from surgery in 2020 performed by Andrews and Sherman. Andrews, 80, is one of the most famous and respected surgeons in American sports. He has worked as a team doctor or consultant for several college and professional teams, and his previous patients include Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Jack Nicklaus.
