Fast food fish restaurant cracked down on multiple violations in recent health inspections


San Antonio – A fast food restaurant specializing in fish was at risk of several health code violations after health inspections in March, while others had to hire pest control and clean up. bottom.

Fred’s Fish Fry at 7716 Marbach Road scored 85 on a recent health inspection. This included repeating his five offenses.

Bleach was stored next to the ready-to-eat corn.

According to the report, there were no food controllers on duty and no workers capable of producing food handler certification.

Employees were not wearing hats or hairnets, and employees wearing jewelry were observed handling food.

Inspectors told them to hire an exterminator to “eradicate the gnats from the facility.”

I also had to clear the dust and debris from the vents.

KSAT Investigates reporter Tim Gerber stopped by the business this week to see if they had a fix.

The employee said he could not answer the question.

While Gerber and KSAT photographer Dale Keller were inside, they saw flies hanging near the front counter and found an old scorecard showing a much higher score from 2019. There was no sign of the latest inspection report.

The inspector pointed out that the ceiling was “sinking in and held together with duct tape.” They have to do some repairs by the end of June.

Businesses were told to “make sure to remediate all violations before the next inspection.”

Galleria Foods

Galleria Foods, located at 703 South San Jacinto, scored 85 points.

Foods such as “hamburger toppings, hot dogs and cheese” were observed to be left at room temperature when they should be kept below 41 degrees.

There was also a tray of patties on the shelf. The inspector wrote, “Patties should not be placed on the shelf until ordered to be cooked.”

Inspectors saw the employee grab an uncooked hamburger patty, place it on the grill, and continue preparing other food items without washing their hands.

A can of Raid was in the kitchen with “dead and live cockroaches.”

The business also needed good cleaning.

The inspector left them with a long list of items to fix in time for the reinspection.

Popo Pizzeria Trattoria

Popo Pizzeria Trattoria at 8603 State Highway 151 scored an 88.

The sink was clogged with food.

There were “multiple gnats” throughout the business and the back door had to be fixed to keep the pests out.

An employee was observed wearing jewelry and preparing food, and a bucket of sugar was found on the floor next to the sink.

A re-inspection was ordered.

Score guide:

100-90 = A (very good to acceptable)

89-80 = B (acceptable to the limit)

79 or less = C (Worst to marginal)

*Metro Health indicates a score of 69 or less.
