Delaware Department of Health food safety inspections of only restaurants with a liquor license and violating licenses in the past week:

Chester Pizzeria, 34 E. Seventh Street, Chester:

• Hand wash sink blocked with a box.

• Deli slicers don’t look or feel pretty.

• Opened food items in the facility are not dated.

• Unapproved pest control products found through back door

• Food stored open in a walk-in cooler.

• Wipes were observed to be stored on the cutting board/counter and not in disinfectant solution until next use.

• There is soil residue under the stand mixer and on the shield.

• Women’s restrooms do not have lidded bins for disposal of feminine hygiene products.

• Unnecessary items/non-functioning equipment found in the back room of the facility.

• Missing ceiling tiles in room behind oven

• [Floors, Walls and Ceilings] Food establishments were found to be in a damaged condition or not smooth and not easily cleaned.

Upper Derby Fresh Grocers, 421 S. 69th St., Upper Derby:

• Food workers were handling ready-to-eat food with their bare hands.

• All hand washing stations used by food workers do not have signs or posters advising food workers to wash their hands.

• A chicken was observed touching a dirty tray rack.

• The temperature of hot water used for immersion hygiene is 95 degrees.

Food stored in non-approved locations on walk-in floors

• Scratch-resistant gloves come in direct contact with prepared food used by employees.

• The mop was found to have been incorrectly stored between uses.

Overbrook Golf Club – Main Dining, 799 Godfrey Road, Villanova:

• All hand washing stations used by food workers do not have signs or posters advising food workers to wash their hands.

• No liquid hand soap in the hand washing area.

• No disposable paper towels in the hand washing area.

• Raw beef preserved on ready-to-eat food (cooked brisket).

• The nozzle on the mixed grill soda gun does not look or feel clean.

• Food contact surfaces of ice cream scoops are stained with crystallized oxidation residue.

• In-use utensils (tongs) improperly stored in oven handles.

• Common bowls or scoops without handles that come into direct contact with bulky foods.

• The walk-in cooler door gasket is damaged and dirty.

• Employees have no access to test kits or other devices to measure sanitizer concentration in sinks and surface sanitizers.

• Dust was found in the ceiling vents in the food preparation area.

The Blue Elephant Restaurant, 110 N. Wayne Ave., Wayne:

• Employees were observed eating in the preparation area.

• The hand wash sink is blocked by cleaning wipes in the ground floor bar area.

• Raw beef preserved over ready-to-eat food (sauce).

• An employee’s mobile phone was observed stored on a cutting board.

• Spray bottle container of cleaner not properly labeled in the ground floor bar area.

• Raw fish and animal proteins are stored in oxygen-reduced packaging.

• Visible evidence of rodent activity present in the upstairs bar area.

• Pre-set crockery is not protected from contamination.

• The walk-in cooler door gasket is damaged.

• An employee’s personal item (mobile phone) was found to be improperly stored on a cutting board.

The Inn at Villanova University, 601 County Line Road, Wayne:

• All hand washing stations used by food workers do not have signs or posters advising food workers to wash their hands.

• No liquid hand soap in the hand washing area.

• No disposable paper towels in the hand washing area.

• Hot water disinfection rinse in dishwasher below 180°C.

• Proteins are stored with reduced oxygen packaging.

• External loading dock doors can allow vermin entry.

• Visible evidence of rodent activity (mouse droppings) observed in food preparation and dishwashing areas.

• Preset tableware is not protected from contamination.

• Cafe microwaves do not meet ANSI/NSF hygiene standards.

• The floor tiles in the food preparation area were found to be damaged or not smooth and easy to clean.

Truth Social Lounge, 700 W. Second St., Chester:

• No disposable paper towels in the kitchen hand wash sink.

• Date not used by the facility.

• A can of unapproved raid was observed under the bar’s triple sink.

• Chicken and fish are thawed at room temperature on the counter.

• Exterior doors by the pool table allow vermin access.

• Food stored in non-approved locations (bags of onions on the floor).

• Cutting boards in use at the sandwich station show deep gouges and heavy soiling.

• Soil residue present in the fryer and floor under the fryer.

• Grease was found dripping from components in the exhaust fume hood system.

There were only 9 total tests in one week.

None of the townships that have their own tests are listed on the USDA website.

Most violations are resolved on the spot, but some require a follow-up visit.
