On March 20, Dr. Mitch Dizon, a subspecialist in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Erlanger Women’s Health, performed the first laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation of uterine fibroids in the region.

According to national statistics, approximately 540,000 hysterectomies are performed annually for non-cancerous conditions, including uterine fibroids. Erlanger now offers a safe, effective and minimally invasive option for women with symptomatic fibroids requiring hysterectomy, myomectomy, or fibroid embolization.

“We are pleased to bring this new, cutting-edge treatment to the many women who suffer from fibroids,” said Dr. Dizon. “Laparoscopic or robotic hysterectomy is the most common procedure I do for uterine fibroids, but it is not always suitable for every woman’s life. Being able to offer another safe, minimally invasive option in recovery time is an important step in advancing the solutions we offer our patients.”

“Fibroids can cause heavy bleeding and cramps, and can be very debilitating for women,” the official said. The patient’s quality of life is greatly improved. In addition, the recovery time is very long.Quick.

“This novel laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation treatment is the first and only system to treat women suffering from fibroids utilizing radiofrequency ablation, laparoscopic ultrasound, and guidance mapping. Significant reduction in bleeding and fibroid size, reduced post-operative pain.Procedures, less intraoperative bleeding compared to hysterectomy and myomectomy, patients typically return to work within 5 days recovery time is short.

“As an additional benefit, laparoscopic ultrasound and guidance mapping also allow surgeons to visualize and treat more fibroids. Many fibroids can be found, which allows patients to be treated for fibroids that may have previously been undetected.”

Dr. Dizon said: We are so excited to offer this treatment option to women in Chattanooga and the surrounding area. ”
