BOSTON – Dr. Elijah Paintsil has been appointed the new Chief of Pediatrics at the Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the Chief of Pediatrics at Boston University Chovanian-Avedisian College of Medicine.
Mr. Paintsill is currently Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Global Health at Yale University School of Medicine, and has worked his way up through the ranks of leadership over the past 18 years. He is professor of pediatrics and pharmacology, professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health, and professor at the Yale School of Business. He will join BMC and the Boston University Chovanian and Avedian College of Medicine in August.

He is a consultant to the Africa CDC in its COVID-19 response efforts across the African continent.
Paintsil started his career in his native Ghana and completed his medical degree from the University of Ghana. He then completed a clinical position at his Catholic hospital in Kohlev Teaching Hospital, Accra, Bator. He then moved to the United States and after completing a pediatric residency in New York City, he entered Yale University School of Medicine.
Mr. Paintsil’s appointment follows Dr. Bob Vinci’s decision to step down as chief pediatrician and pediatrician after 44 years of continuous service to hospitals, medical colleges and the wider community. Mr. Vinci will continue to lead the department until Mr. Paintsil arrives.
