I’m still trying to process what happened Saturday night.
A devastating turn of events for Eli Tomac on his way to a third title…and in front of his hometown fans.
No, Eli wasn’t going to clinch in Denver, but he certainly was going to clinch at SLC on Saturday.
I hope this isn’t his last. It is a pity.
Yamaha released more information about Tomac’s injury today. He will have surgery today, according to the team.
Last night at the penultimate round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross in Denver, Colorado, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac was on track for another great result. Unfortunately, the current 450SX champion and points he leader was forced to withdraw from the main his event due to injury.
Tomac continued his 18-point lead in the championship as he headed into his home state Supercross round at Empower Field in My High. He qualified 3rd overall and had a flying start in the heat race, leading the first four laps and eventually crossing the line in 2nd place. In the main event he again got off to a great start and quickly took the lead. Tomac had a good pace up front but unfortunately on his third lap he tore his Achilles tendon. Tomac has sought further evaluation and today he will undergo surgery to repair the injury. An update on his status will come at a later date.

βIt’s really hard to put into words to be honest. Obviously this is tough on Eli and the whole team. Our first thoughts are Eli and we wish him a speedy recovery.
