Dr. Steven Burke, longtime Texas Tech HSC medical director, dies

Stephen Burke, Ph.D., medical director and executive vice president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, died Friday, May 26.

His death was announced Friday evening by TTUHSC, who has served as dean for the past 17 years and executive president for 13 years.

“Our university officials are heartbroken and mourn the tremendous loss of his family, faculty, students and the medical community,” the TTUHSC said in a statement. The circumstances of his death were not immediately known.

In 1999 he joined the faculty of TTUHSC and has held the positions of Regional Dean of the Amarillo Campus, Professor of Medicine, and Myrick Myers Endowed Chair in Geriatrics.
