Data Breach May Affect Patients at Multiple Virginia Providers

The claims are affiliated with multiple Tidewater medical providers, including Sentara Healthcare, The King’s Daughters Children’s Hospital, Riverside Health System and Chesapeake Regional, according to information posted on the company’s website on Saturday. A collection company was hacked and personal data leaked.

In early March, Newport News-based vendor Credit Control Corporation noticed unusual activity in its network. According to the release, an investigation revealed that the hack occurred between March 2nd and March 7th, and the company has begun investigating what information was copied and taken out.

On May 3, investigators found that Social Security numbers, names, addresses, account balances and other data had been copied, according to the announcement. We started notifying customers from May 4th.

“We also notify individuals on behalf of our business partners and offer them the opportunity to enroll in our free credit monitoring and privacy services,” the release reads. “Instruct individuals to stay vigilant for incidents of identity theft and fraud, review account statements and benefit form descriptions, and monitor free credit reports for suspicious activity and to detect errors. It is recommended.”

Other clients affected by the hack include Pariser Dermatology Specialists Inc., Chesapeake Radiology, Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group, UVA Health System, VCU Health System, Valley Health, and Mary Washington Healthcare, according to the release.
