Cleveland Clinic’s Akron General Appoints New Chief Nursing Officer – Cleveland Clinic Newsroom


Kelly Saucerman Howard, DNP, RN

Akron: Cleveland Clinic Akron General has appointed Kelly Saucerman Howard (DNP, RN) as its new Chief Nursing Officer, effective June 19.

Saucerman Howard has 34 years of experience in nursing, quality, infection prevention, regulatory compliance and patient safety and has worked in large academic healthcare systems for over 10 years.

“We are thrilled to have such a talented nursing leader as Kelly leading our nursing staff to provide the very best care and join us in our commitment to being the best place to work for nurses,” said Dr. Bryan Hart, MD, president of the hospital, said: General Akron.

Saucerman Howard hails from Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy in Omaha, Nebraska, where he served as Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services. He previously served as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Quality at Regional He One He Health in Memphis, Tennessee.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Bethuel College of Nursing at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, where she also completed her Master of Science in Nursing. She received her doctorate in nursing practice from Creighton University.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Kelly to our organization,” said Meredith Fox, MSN, MBA, APRN, executive chief nursing officer at the Cleveland Clinic. “She is an outstanding leader and her skills and invaluable experience will be a great asset in further enhancing the excellent care that nurses at Akron General provide to patients every day.”

She will succeed Sheila Miller, DNP, RN, MBA, who is currently Chief Nursing Officer at the Cleveland Clinic in London.
