It’s a shame that hurricane season looming over Florida doesn’t affect the brand new night market opening in Clearwater this summer.

Located at 14100 US Hwy. A night market packed with Vietnamese and other Southeast Asian delicacies will pop up every Saturday and Sunday night starting June 3 at Little Saigon Plaza 19N in Clearwater. It’s free to attend, kids friendly, and starts at 6pm. 11:00 p.m. both nights.

From boba tea, spring rolls and barbecue to signature desserts, papaya salad and Vietnamese crawfish, the newly opened Saigon Summer Night Market is the perfect place to sample a range of made-to-order street food.

Market organizer Lou Nguyen moved to Tampa Bay from California two years ago with the intention of starting a business, and his dream of creating a family gathering space has finally come true.

Nguyen told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay, “I noticed that there weren’t many street stalls and Asian markets like I had in California. Because it helps children and children to get together,” he said.

He also helps with the maintenance and other responsibilities of Little Saigon Plaza in Clearwater and can work with various restaurants and businesses adjacent to the night market.

Nguyen hosted his first street food market in early May, but based on the feedback he received from the first (somewhat overwhelming) wave of customers, he took a few weeks off to rebuild the event and organized.

“The first market was attended by over 1,000 people from different parts of Florida. I was amazed at how many people drove hours to get here,” says Nguyen.

Stalls that attendees can expect at next weekend’s market include Boba Slingers Bamboo, Tampa’s Gao Restaurant, Thuy Cafe, Juju Taiyaki, T&T’s Pho, Quan Ngon FL, JuMary Eats, Basil & Rosemary and more. In addition, dozens of other small and medium-sized enterprises will also open stores. A variety of Southeast Asian dishes.

Nguyen stresses that although most of the vendors specialize in Asian cuisine, the weekly market welcomes people of all backgrounds. One of his newest additions is Tacos El Jamon, a hearty biria he serves tacos and other Mexican dishes.

Nguyen said some of the small businesses in his market are also set up in the new Friday night Laos Market and the weekly Pinellas Farmers & Flea Market down the street at the Saigon Summer Night Market.
