The Loma Linda University School of Medicine has elected Joshua S. Chan, M.D., Ph.D., of FACS, as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, effective July 1.
Jeong, who joined the medical school in 2019, is an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery and is currently the deputy director of cardiothoracic surgery. He will lead a team of cardiothoracic surgeons and work with a multidisciplinary team to continue the growth and advancement of cardiothoracic services throughout the Loma Linda University Health System.
“Dr. Chong is a highly accomplished surgeon and I am confident that his talent and leadership will make an outstanding contribution to faculty, residents, students and patients,” said Tamara Thomas, M.D., Dean of Medicine, Loma Linda University. ‘ said.
Mr. Chong received his M.D. in 2007 from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in General Surgery at her Methodist Hospital in Riverside, Columbus, Ohio, and received a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at her Sinai Her Medical Center in Cedars. He also completed a Heart and Lung Transplant/Mechanical Assisted Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. In 2019, Mr. Chung returned to Loma Linda University School of Health, where he also served as Director of Adult Heart Transplantation, ECMO, and Mechanical Circulatory Support.
Dr. Chung is certified by the American Board of Surgeons and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
He succeeds Dr. Anes Razouk, who has been the department head since 2007.
The position was approved by the Loma Linda University Health Board this week.
