Chargers will once again be a leader in diversifying and expanding the world of sports medicine.
A year after Boltz became one of eight teams to participate in the NFL’s Diversity Pipeline Initiative in Sports Medicine, the NFL announced Monday that the program will be implemented league-wide.
This program is affiliated with the NFL Physicians Association (NFLPS) and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Association (PFATS).
Jason Moore, a Howard University School of Medicine student, gained valuable knowledge and experience during his time at Chargers last year.

“I got to spend four weeks in Los Angeles with some amazing doctors who are at the top of their field,” said Moore, who ironically grew up a Chargers fan. “Performing various physical examination operations and techniques, he spent time on various imaging tests such as his X-rays and MRIs, which are a large part of what is used to diagnose patients.”
Moore also spent time practicing and helping medical staff watch over the players.
The 2022 NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative included 14 students from four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) medical schools, completing eight NFL club rotations.
This year, students from 19 different schools will face every NFL club.
The NFL’s release notes that the effort is already having a big impact.
Diverse student enrollment is on the rise, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. From 2022 to 2023, “the number of black or African American enrolments will increase by 9%” and “the number of Hispanic, Latino, and Spanish enrolments will increase by 4%”, but “the number of Americans Enrollments of Indian or Alaskan Natives increased, down 9%. ”
The medical students working with the Chargers will be announced at a later date.
