morehead cityY – Cartert Healthcare Board unanimously appointed Kyle Malek to lead the hospital into a new era of success.
Malek’s appointment took effect on May 22, after more than five months as the hospital’s interim CEO.
The hospital’s former CEO, William Harvey Case, resigned on December 31.
Carteret Health Care Board Chairman Mark Schuth expressed his delight at Malek’s appointment.
“I am pleased to have Marek lead Cartlet Healthcare as permanent CEO,” said Schousse. “He has proven himself in many roles at the hospital over the years and has demonstrated leadership abilities during his tenure as interim CEO that will ensure the continued success of this hospital.”
With over 24 years of experience in healthcare, Marek brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.
Prior to becoming Interim President and CEO, he served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer for General Services, where he drove technological advances for hospitals to meet evolving regulations.
As a key decision maker within the management team, Marek played a pivotal role in overseeing major construction projects such as the Specialized Pavilion, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and ongoing surgical service additions and renovations. .
Marek’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Science in Network Technology from East Carolina University.
His contributions to the hospital were recognized nationally by Becker’s Hospital Review, and he was recognized as Regional Hospitals’ Need-to-Know Chief Information Officer in 2017, 2019 and 2022.
Additionally, the College of Health Care Information Management Executives (CHCIME) has recognized Carteret Health Care as the Digital Health Most Wired Organization in 2022 under Marek’s leadership.
Marek continues to be an active member of prestigious medical institutions such as CHCIME, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Information and Management System Society.
Mr. Malek expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to lead Carteret Healthcare and emphasized his determination to work closely with the board, hospital staff and medical professionals to meet the growing needs of Carteret County.

Malek and his wife Kelly are now raising their family on the Carteret County coast.
His son Clint is a senior at East Carolina University and his daughter Camdin is a sophomore at West Carteret High School.
When not immersed in medical leadership, Malek enjoys spending quality time with his family and immersing himself in passions such as fishing, hunting, and rooting for the East Carolina University Pirates.
