The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced that for years, fake “doctors” have been accused of practicing medicine on thousands of patients without a license.
Prosecutors have charged 43-year-old Stephan Gevorkian with five felony counts of practicing medicine without a license, according to district attorney George Gascon.
Prosecutors say Gevorkian has treated thousands of people and provided care to patients with serious medical conditions like cancer. He was arrested when an undercover investigator went to Medical for a consultation.
“The business tests patients’ blood, advises on treatment, and provides treatment for serious conditions such as cancer and viral infections,” prosecutors said.
During consultations, Gevorkian was said to have been unable to cope with abnormal levels of hormones that could indicate a serious medical condition.
“Practicing medicine without a license is not only a criminal offense in California, but it can cause irreparable damage to the health of defenseless people. There are some seriously ill people who believe they are suffering,” Gascon said.
A preliminary hearing in Gevorkian is scheduled for May 24, prosecutors said.
