Buffalo family devastated by food truck fire, suspected arson

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – A local family is seeking solutions and help after their family-owned food truck was allegedly deliberately set on fire.

The Hernandez family in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood are very upset that their food truck has been badly damaged and possibly completely destroyed. They contacted News 4’s Call For Action, hoping to find those responsible.

The truck was taken to the city custody. The family-owned business is called La Ventana Del Sabor, which translates to window of taste.

They’ve been serving Puerto Rican food for years in the Black Rock neighborhood, away from their mother’s home on East Street. rice field.

However, on Friday night, someone allegedly started a small fire inside the food truck, causing minor damage near the stove. Early Monday morning, Buffalo Fire said the food truck was again deliberately set on fire and badly damaged.

“My heart broke. It was his dream. It’s her dream to have a new baby. I’ve been cooking for years. I wanted my son to be successful.” It just broke my heart when something like this happened,” said Omira Reyes. She’s the mother of Jonathan Hernandez.

Hernandez says it was his girlfriend’s dream to own a restaurant and was shocked to learn that someone would do this.

“We were born and raised here, so we were going to have our grand opening here, but unfortunately look what happened,” Hernandez said. She was emotional all day long.Many people reached out to us and sent us many lovely messages.Many asked us to come back.”

Hernandez estimates he has put more than $50,000 into the food truck and has insurance, but the insurance agency has yet to make a decision on their claims. The family was planning a grand opening a few weeks from now, but now they’re working on destroying their future business.

The family is using social media to spread awareness of what happened. The family hopes that people will watch this story and provide information and videos about what happened to the police.
