Craig Conroy will reportedly be named the next general manager of the Calgary Flames. TSN’s Darren Dregger.

according to TSN’s Salim Varzithe club formally announced the hiring on Tuesday, saying the list of candidates for the vacancy included more than 40 names.

Conroy first joined the Flames front office in 2010 and has served as the team’s assistant general manager for the past nine years.

The first challenge for the 51-year-old will likely be finding a new head coach following the dismissal of Darryl Sutter in early May.

In April, Flames parted ways with former general manager Brad Treliving, whose contract expired on June 30 after nine years at the helm.

“We are very excited about this opportunity for Craig and his family.” Treliving said in a statement: “We have been together for nine years and during that time he has been exposed to all aspects of the business. We are confident that Craig is well prepared for this challenge. “

Conroy appeared in 1,009 games during his 18-year NHL career, including two stints in Calgary. He scored 182 goals, 542 points and 603 penalties.
