(CNN) A California man was indicted last week for falsely claiming to be a licensed physician and performing medical procedures on thousands of individuals, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon said in a news release Monday. Announced.
Stephan Gevorkian, 44, has been charged with five felonies for practicing medicine without certification for several years at his North Hollywood clinic, Pathways Medical.
The clinic “runs patient blood tests, advises on treatment, and provides treatment for serious conditions such as cancer and viral infections,” the release said.
The indictment occurred after an undercover agent met Gevorkian for a consultation in November 2022. During the visit, Gevorkian “allegedly failed to accurately deal with abnormal levels of hormones indicative of a serious medical condition,” the release said.
The incident is also being investigated by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, according to the release.
Gevorkian pleaded not guilty to an arraignment on Friday and the judge released him on his own acknowledgment on the condition that he did not perform medical procedures, Tatevik Tigranyan, a spokesman for the DA’s office, told CNN. Told.
CNN reached out to Gevorkian’s attorney, Pathways Medical, and the Office of Consumer Affairs for comment.
“Practicing medicine without a license is not only a criminal offense in California, it can cause irreparable damage to the health of defenseless people,” Gascon said in a statement.
